History
The Bat. The one thing that was left in the world which could scare a man who had made fear his new best friend. Dr Jonathan Crane, psychiatrist, mad man, inmate of his own asylum, put there by the man he'd tried to destroy. No one could keep Crane forever. Eventually, he was released, drunk with madness, a learned man with a hunger to pay back the man who'd put him into a place that he had, for years put others in. And then the war happened...
A great powerful world domination. Power against power, fear ran wild through the streets of Gotham City, and Crane was immune to it all. Joining forces with those who sought to bring down the heroes, Crane's usefulness was pertinent to their tasks. His fear gas providing a lethal cocktail, sending citizens and heroes alike into fear induced panic attacks. Citizens destroyed themselves and each other in terror and the war raged around him. Crane lived for this. He lived to see the Bat Man, brought down. To watch while the city turned itself into chaos. Destroyed itself through fear and rage. And then, the sun began to grow, and it was not just a war anymore, but a global warming. A dangerous star that fixed itself upon the earth and raped its lands..drying the earth, scorching grasslands, killing trees, destroying rivers and waterways which fed not only the earth, but every living creature upon it.
Crane fled. He used his gas to strike fear into the hearts of bandits and evil doers. He grew himself a little army of living souls, people who killed for him, who ate the flesh of their foes in order to survive. Who slaughtered entire families for one drop of water...who became desperate, afraid..but loyal to the man who made their lives just a little bit easier than it had been before he arrived. When life finally began to settle...Crane was in a strong position in the 'badlands' of middle America. He had a small army of men and women willing to be led. To have someone take control and tell them what to do. Inhabiting derelict buildings, Crane and his group of lackies survived. Hungry, desperate and full of a deep resentment for those who had brought about the end of the world they'd known.
Currently living in the Charleston area after having figured out where the Bat Man was living, The Scarecrow plotted his revenge. If the world had not been full of 'heroes' we'd not be where we were today. In a hostile land where every drop of water was worth more than a mountain made entirely of gold. Crane truly believed that it was the heroes, and their fight for justice, their desire to lead and control chaos itself that led to the inevitable downfall of civilisation. Everyone knows that a little chaos keeps natural order. Everyone that is, but the so called vigilantes. The heroes of the world, saving little old ladies and bringing to justice, men like Crane. Everything comes full circle. The world might be dead, but Doctor Jonathan Crane was not.
Many of us crucify ourselves between two thieves - regret for the past and fear of the future. Fear. Fear is the key.
